Abstract

'Jesuits in Zambia 1880-1991' postulates the story of the Jesuit presence in Zambia. It relates the history of the early jesuit missionaries through to the present day. Two themes run through the history presented: First, how the Jesuits were at the service of the people and the gospel, and secondly, how they made an effort to learn and write down Zambian languages, to collect proverbs, and to reinforce best local traditions.

This book discusses on the beginning of Jesuit missionaries in Zambia. Two themes run through the history, firstly the Jesuits were at the service of people and the Gospel, attempting to establish the church in Zambia and secondly Jesuits made an effort to learn and write down Zambian languages and to dance. Further more they introduced the dialogue between the Gospel and the Zambian cultures that continues today.
