Abstract

School Resource Centres is the report of the first year of the Schools Council Resource Centre Project. The project was aimed at identifying the various problems which face schools and authorities wishing to develop resource centres. The book pays special attention to indexing, storage and retrieval systems. It explores on a communication problem that exists in schools and defines resource centres. The book also examines production of resources, acquisition and storage of resources. It further looks at the physical arrangement of resources, that is, subject or accession number and classification for shelf arrangement. Indexing for retrieval, planning for use and staff activities in the use of resources is explained. Finally, staffing the school library resource centre and some conclusions are made.
