Abstract

This book is written for teachers, both practicing and those in training. It carries a reader from a knowledge of psychology as a discipline and its missions and methods. The treatment of learning theories is preceded by a clear articulation of the key concepts underlying a theory in general and then, how learning is studied. The principal view points about learning about learning is all about and how it can be expedited and made pleasurable are covered in the chapters of behaviorism, cognitive, social learning, and humanism. Changes in human growth are dealt with in the chapter on human development and learning. Apart from physical growth, cognitive functioning is also discussed. The book further explains notions of problem solving, learning how to learn, concept learning,memory and forgetting, and mastery of school subjects. It finally explains how learning is assessed, and how students can be guided and counseled so as to optimize on the opportunities to learn, grow, and develop into mature, adult, and intelligent persons.
